Alan Sass wins a tourney, and the cover of Bluff Magazine!
Unfortunately I didn’t fair so well at the LAPC. I didn’t even make it past the first level. I read my opponent for a 1 pair hand, and tried to represent a boat to bluff him off of it. My read was right, but the play was questionable at best. Oh well, that’s what happens sometimes when you bluff.
On Thursday I drove up to Vegas for the Wynn Poker Classic.
I played the 2k event on Friday. I built a pretty decent chiplead early on, but I lost half of it when I shoved an open ended straight draw into someone with two pair, and I lost the other half when my kings got cracked by tens all-in preflop.
On Saturday I played the 3k. I built up another chiplead in this tournament, and actually held it for a while. I hit a dry stretch, and afterwards, a few somewhat unfortunate hands were enough to knock me out in 15th place which paid $5,300.
Alan Sass and I have been traveling together in tournaments. He is a great player, so we have an ongoing deal where we trade 10% in each tournament we play. In the 3k yesterday, at one point we were first and second in chips with about 30 players left, so we decided to swap another 10%.
Alan went into the final table today with a short stack, but he played some great poker and managed to will out a win for $150,000. Congratulations Alan!
$30,000 of that money went to me, so it was a good day for me too
Tomorrow is going to be a VERY exciting day for me. Bluff Magazine is preparing for their next months issue which will be a World Series of Poker preview.
For the cover, they are doing an old-pro vs. young gun type thing. Here’s the lineup.
Veterans: Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson
Young Guns: Jeff Madsen, Vanessa Roussou, Nick Schulman… and ME!
Anyway, I’m really excited that I’m going to be on the cover of the #1 poker magazine. Afterwards there is going to be a party at the Voodoo Lounge, so tomorrow should be an all-around amazing day and night.
Oh yeah, if you haven’t checked it out already, there is a pretty good article on me in the current issue of bluff. You can read it online at: http://www.bluffmagazine.com/onlinefeature/zeejustin.asp I think it does a good job of having a realistic view of the whole multi-accounting debacle which I try not to think about too much.
