It Has Begun!
Weeeeeeeeeeee!
I’ve waited years for this day! I finally get to play my first World Series of Poker event tomorrow!
The last two years I’ve sat by and watched all the action going on at the Rio, unable to play despite having the money to enter the event.
Last year PokerShare.com tried to enter a Chimp (true story!) into the main event. They had successfully shown that there were no rules against the chimp playing. However, the WSOP found one way to exclude the chimp from playing. He was only four years old so he was not old enough to gamble. That’s right, the Chimp and I both couldn’t play the WSOP last year for the exact same reason. How embarrassing.
Anyway, this year I’m ready to kick some ass. Tomorrow is the first ever Mixed Holdem event ($5,000 Buyin). It will switch between limit and no limit every 30 minutes. Not many people can play both games very well, so I am really looking forward to this event. For those of you that may think I’m only a NL player, I actually spent the first year of my career playing nothing but limit holdem. I’m not *great* at it, but I can certainly hold my own.
Chris Bush (Bushman), Brandan Schaefer, Ozzy87, Steve billirakis (MrSmokey1), and Roman (don’t know if his online names are supposed to be kept secret or not) and I are sharing a house together. It’s a pretty sweet 7 bedroom house with a pool and what not.
You may be asking yourself why we have 7 bedrooms for 6 people, but the 7th bedroom will be occupied by our own personal live-in chef which I’m very excited about. She has no idea what she’s getting herself into. GG.
People are making all kinds of prop bets for the WSOP. Negreanu is taking bets at 5-1 odds against him winning a bracelet this year. For what it’s worth, I think he’s a significant favorite in that bet.
People were betting on Barry Greenstein with the odds at 3.5-1. Barry was also putting himself heads up against other people. He gave Mike Wattel 8-5 odds for example. I asked Barry what odds he would give me, and he said he wouldn’t give me odds. I’d have to take the bet at 1-1 with no odds. I gotta admit I’m honored that he has that much respect for my game. To be fair, he did explain that I would have a significant advantage over him since much less of my time would be devoted to cash games, and he did offer to crossbook against me in individual events (an offer I obviously declined). Even still, I was pretty stoked about getting that much respect from him.
I feel great about my chances this year, especially since I’m going to be playing a TON of events. I’m going to play the noon events most days, and if I ever fall below 10 big blinds before 5pm, I’m going to try to find coinflips for all my chips. That way if I bust, I can play the 5pm event. I won’t do anything crazy if I actually have chips, because well, I’m a nit like that. But I really want to play as many events as possible.
I do have to add the disclaimer that I have absolutely no idea what to expect. I’ve never played so many events in such a short period of time before, so I may just get completely worn out. But right now, I’m very optimistic about my chances over the next two months.
It’s definitely the “Make or break” season for poker players, so wish me luck!
