Festa Al Lago at the Bellagio

Just a few days after getting home from Aruba, I packed my stuff back up and drove to Vegas for the Festa Al Lago tournaments at the Bellagio. I arrived Friday night and played the $1500 90 on Saturday, and then the $2000 100 the next day. On Saturday I was playing pretty well, but got knocked out fairly quickly when I called the small blind with A2, the flop came 422, and a limper held 44. There was no way I could have gotten away from that. On Sunday, I played extremely well. I made a huge check raise semi-bluff all-in ...

Aruba: non-poker stuff

There have been some requests to write about the stuff that happened in Aruba, so I'll oblige. I stayed with Ezra Galston, and Emil Patel (Whitelime / Maroonlime online) at the Radisson. We met up with Ariel Schneller who is a really cool guy with a lot of degeneracy to him that makes him even more entertaining. He has so many awesome stories about how he lost eleventy billion dollars playing blackjack, or busted a ginormous chip lead on the bubble of a WPT. The first night in Aruba, Taylor Caby (Green Plastic) informed us of a party Phil Hellmuth was hosting. ...

Aruba Tournament Report

The main event in Aruba started on Wednesday. Ultimate Bet had a brilliant idea to put all the direct buyins in the same room. The idea was to give the UB sponsored pros an advantage by sticking them with the internet qualifiers, while all the people that bought in with cash in the few days before the tournament were in a different room. I think this is extremely unfair, and it may not seem like a big deal, but when you are playing mulit-million dollar events, you expect everything to be equally fair for everyone. It was no shocker that my ...

Summary of the Legislation against Unlawful Internet Gambling

On September 30th, Congress passed the conference report for the SAFE Ports Act of 2006. Why am I writing about a Port Security Bill? Well, the benevolent Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist managed to tack on a few pages about Internet Gambling to the end of the bill. Much to my dismay, this is being referred to as the “ban on internet poker”, but this is not the case at all. Poker players are panicking like crazy, when this may actually be a reason to rejoice. I’ll explain why. The document in question is actually titled the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act ...

Aruba and the Methuselah Foundation

I leave for Aruba tonight (overnight flight). By the time I come back I will be 21. That means I will never be denied the right to gamble or drink ever again because of age. It feels like an eternity has passed, and I'm just about to begin my poker career. I made a post a while ago saying that I was going to donate a small percent of my live tournament winnings to a charity. I have been criticized some at 2 2 for saying this and "not following through", but I haven't played a single live tournament since January. ...

Poker, Ebooks, and Obadiahs

I've been playing a decent amount of poker lately. I've made another $10,000 in the past week or so including $6,000 today. My cash game is coming along nicely. I've started to write an E-book. At first I thought it would be a quick easy project, but there's just so much information I want to put in it, and I still want it to have room for tons of hand histories. I may attach a download with it that works camtasia-style or something. I'm not sure exactly what direction I'm going to go with it (or even if I will get ...

My Weekend

My weekend: Thursday we (Me, Ben, Brian [our new roommate] and Ian [dude that lived here before Brian]) all went to see Tool at the Staples Center. Amazing show of course. Afterwards we went to Brian's apt to pick up his sister Jenny who flew to Europe the next day, and we said one final goodbye to his old apartment. Friday I mostly just played poker. I always love the drunken fish that come out on Fridays. I took one of the funniest beats I've taken in a long time, but sadly I can't discuss it as someone would surely recognize the hand ...
