Quick Update from Bellagio

Last blog I wrote I left off going into the final table with a severe short stack (was 9/9, and the guy in 8th had almost 4x as many chips as me). No miracles happened, and I finished 9th. It paid $13,000. The main event didn’t go very well. I got top pair and a flush draw all-in vs an overpair on the turn for all my chips. He made a pretty huge call with jacks (overpair to the board), and my 14 outer whiffed. As I walked out, I ran into Durrr who had also busted and was heading back to ...

Foxwoods and a Final Table

Reno sucked. They ran the tournament terribly. I don’t know exactly what they did for seat assignments, but 90% of the satellite winners were on one side of the room, and 90% of the pros / direct buyins were on the other side. All 9 players at my starting table were pros. It was pretty absurd. I didn’t get deep or anything, and there weren’t any hands worth writing about, so I’ll get straight to Foxwoods. I got to Foxwoods the night before the 2k. I went to buy-in at 1am, and unlike a real casino, registration was closed. I also ...

Wynn, Reno and ESPN Think Tank

My last blog left off at the Wynn, so let’s start there. I played the 2k and the 3k, and got fairly deep in one, but did not cash. In the 10k main event at the Wynn, I had an insane starting table. You know how there are tables so loose that no one ever gets a walk in the big blind? Not only did it never fold around to the big blind, but it didn’t even fold around to the CUT OFF a single time until the level before last of the day. I had a very rocky day, which is pretty ...

Bay101 and Wynn

Not surprisingly, the last blog I wrote started a little controversy. First I want to apologize to anyone that feels I was categorizing Vietnamese players. Perhaps I should have come up with a different name for the player I labeled VP (Vietnamese Player), but I was not trying to infer anything with that comment. I only meant to speak out against one person, and have nothing against Vietnamese players, nor do I have any reason to believe that on average they are any less ethical than any other ethnicity. A very well respected Vietnamese player approached me today telling me that my comments ...

Men the Master Cheating @ Commerce

I’ve publicly said in the past that I never outed other multi-accounters (of 2+ years ago) because they were good people, and that I have no reason to believe they’d ever cheat again. I’ve been criticized a bit for this, so I guess I’ll give people what they want. Normally, I hate talking trash about people, but sometimes, it’s deserved. For those of you that don’t know the story, a few years ago, Men “The Master” Nguyen and a bunch of the players he staked were in a hotel room together when the fire alarm went off. They were asked to leave ...

Why did I enter that tournament?

So I’ve wanted to start playing more cash games at Commerce, but I haven’t been home. Last night seemed like a good night to start since it was Friday. I left a little bit after 3:30, and got there around 4:40, and I’d figured I would check to see if the 1k limit tournament had closed registration yet. Turns out they closed 5 minutes before I got there. No problem, I wanted to play cash games anyway. But wait! They hadn’t locked the prize pool yet or something, so they allowed me to squeeze in… big mistake. I built my starting stack of ...

Alway

Well, this is my least favorite topic to write about, but here it goes one more time. I now have SEVEN cashes over $100,000 (9 over $75,000), without a single cash over $200,000. I keep coming so close to a huge score, and just missing out. In those 9 tournaments, I do have two first place finishes. Of course, out of the 9 tournaments, only two of them didn’t have a 1st place prize of $200,000 or more. I run good, just like anyone else. I just wish I could run good the one time it actually REALLY matters, and by one time, ...
