WSOP #6 – 1.5k NL and the Robert Williamson Angle Shot

So I played the $1500 NL today. I started off well and built the 3k starting chips up to 18,500. I lost them all in a big multi-way limped pot when I flopped trips. It checked around on the flop, and there was a bet and a raise in front that would commit me. I knew it was very likely that I was out-kicked there, and would normally have folded, but I had a flush draw to go with my trips which gave me enough equity to stick it in. Of course I was out-kicked, and the flush draw missed. ...

WSOP #5 – 50k HORSE, and LOL Hellmuthaments #2

Day three of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E was brutal. I caught some cards early on and was the chipleader at one point with 1.1 million. I went on a two hour stretch that was just brutal. The hold’em level was 18,000 / 36,000, so even though I was at the top of the chip count, I only had 30 big bets to work with. I lost a bunch of small hold’em pots with standard raising hands that just missed. I had built up a pretty loose image (despite using pretty tight preflop standards), so I decided I was gonna tighten up for ...

WSOP #4 – Day 3 of the 50k Horse!

I have 508k going into day 3 of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E World Championship. That puts me at 6th in chips with 52 players (of the original 148) remaining. I won a HUGE pot in stud-hi where I had Aces up on 4th street, fours full of aces on 6th street, and my hand wasn't the best hand until I rivered quads (one of 3 outs for me) on 7th street. It was a ginormous 3 way pot. I probably should have folded on 5th street, but in my defense: I've been asked about a dozen times how I feel going into the ...

WSOP #3 – Minor Cold Streak, 1.5k NL Commentary and 50k Horse

I can’t believe how fast the WSOP has gone by so far. I’ve played 18 events and still only have one cash. It was a nice payday I guess, but I’m really disappointed with my performance so far. I think I’ve been playing well, but the cards just haven’t been going my way. I’ve started off really well in a few events. I had a bunch of chips in the 5k limit holdem, but lost with kings twice in like 20 minutes when the blinds were killer on day two and that was all she wrote. Three things had to go wrong ...

WSOP Update #2 – 2k NL Final Table

WSOP Event #10 – $2,000 No Limit Hold’em My first table was pretty soft, although that’s to be expected in fields with 1500 players. One guy to my right recognized me and introduced himself to me: Michael Banducci. He and I used to play against each other all the time in high stakes SNGs. His online name was w0rldsgr8st or something to that effect. Anyway, I was able to chip up nicely at this table. Most the players were fairly transparent and I was able to make a couple of nice big bluffs to gain some chips. After a few hours ...

WSOP Update #1 – Smokey Wins!

Ok, sorry for the lack of updates. I'm gonna try to split this update up into a few pieces so the big pieces of news don't all get lumped together. First and foremost, huge congrats go out to Steve "MrSmokey1" Billirakis for winning the $5,000 mixed Hold'em event - the very first event of the WSOP. This made him the youngest player ever to win a bracelet at the tender age of 21 years and 10 days. Smokey is living in the house with all of us, so we were all there cheering him on. It was a lot of fun ...

It Has Begun!

Weeeeeeeeeeee! I've waited years for this day! I finally get to play my first World Series of Poker event tomorrow! The last two years I've sat by and watched all the action going on at the Rio, unable to play despite having the money to enter the event. Last year PokerShare.com tried to enter a Chimp (true story!) into the main event. They had successfully shown that there were no rules against the chimp playing. However, the WSOP found one way to exclude the chimp from playing. He was only four years old so he was not old enough to gamble. That's right, ...
