Random Thoughts
Im listening to Wiretap Scars by Sparta. I forgot how good this album was. It’s sooo good.
I’m going to compose this blog with seemingly random sentences. Don’t feel like writing in paragraph form.
I moved to Vegas last week. Staying at Panorama towers (home to ~40 poker players including fellow Bodog pros DWilliams and Evelyn Ng. Also home to all the guys I lived with last summer)
Ozzy87 will be living with me at least for a while. We’ve gone nuts buying stuff for the condo. Have all our furniture already. Spent $740 at the grocery store. Then spent $1400 at LinensNThings. We bought so much stuff that Ozzy couldn’t fit in my car. He had to take a cab home.
The Magic Pro Tour came to LA yesterday. I missed the beginning because I was busy with the move. Last night was good times. The face of the game has changed though. Very few of the old school pros that I “grew up with” still play. The average skill level has gone through the roof, although there is currently no clear best player in the world, but there is still room for one. I will not be stepping up to the challenge.
I run TERRIBLY at the credit card game. At Circo at Bellagio two weeks ago, the table was taunting me telling me I was gonna lose, since I always lose. Thorladen’s constant needling was too much for me to take. He challenged me to crossbook. I did. This is the only time in my life I have ever crossbooked. The bill was $2000. My card lost the roulette, so I paid the $2,000 bill, then gave Thor $2,000 more for crossbooking against him. Most expensive dinner I’ve ever had.
I lost the credit card game AGAIN last night at Matsuhisa (of Nobu fame). The meal was excellent, but it cost me $1400.
Among the dinner crew were Dave Williams and Jon Finkel.
Nothing exciting about having dinner with Dave for me. Just felt like randomly name dropping.
But Jon Finkel is my idol. There is a book about him called Johnny Magic and the Cardshark Kids. He was a fat unpopular teenager. He got pissed on by bullies. LITERALLY pissed on. Then he became the best magic player of all time. He lost weight and gave himself a makeover and actually became a cool guy (but still a dork, i.e the best kind of cool guy). Then he became a part of the 2nd most successful blackjack team ever. Then he formed one of the most successful sports betting teams over.
I’m playing on Bodog right now and losing. Dude made a really loose call against my shove with a flush draw. I didn’t get there. I’ve 3 bet bluffed twice. Both have been cold called by one of the blinds. That’s always bad.
It’s cool having a table named after me on Bodog. Kind of weird though, especially since people always ask me who I am. Maybe more awkward than weird.
WSOP is coming up and I’m psyched. Will have my place set up 500 yards from the Rio. Ready to dedicate myself to winning a bracelet. Nobody is a favorite ( > 50%) to win a bracelet, but I definitely consider myself one of the top runners in likelihood. Negreanu is probably #1 IMO. It’s crucial being good at lots of different games, and Negreanu has the added benefit of having people play terribly against him.
Life is great right now.
It’s easy for me to get in a “euphoric state” when I listen to music. Most people would probably think I was mentally insane if they really knew what I meant when I said this.
I don’t know what it is, but music affects me more than I’ve seen just about anyone get affected by it. My brother is one exception. He’s a very talented musician. I will plug his band in my blog once they get some of the tracks from their EP online.
Music makes my drives to/from Vegas extremely enjoyable to me. If you took a short video clip of me, you might catch me with my sandals off, my left foot resting on the seat, my right foot no where near the pedals, the cruise control on, and me screaming at the top of my lungs (to the music of course). You still wouldn’t be able to hear me because the music would be so loud.
I’d probably look like I was about to crash, but I’m relatively safe during those drives. I only do that drive at night because I can’t help but try to be efficient in everything I do. With no cars on the rode, I can consistently knock out the drive in 3 hours 20 minutes. It can easily take 5+ hours if I were to do it during “normal people hours” instead.
Writing my blog like this is fun. I should do it more often.
I’m still listening to Wiretap Scars. Light Burns Clear (track 6) doesn’t live up to the standards of the rest of the album. That’s ok because it’s followed shortly by Red Alibi which is an ABSURDLY good song. Damn I love this song.
I think I’m running out of random thoughts.
Gonna end the blog now. Sorry for the lack of updates. Been super busy.
