The Boys Are Back in Town

People have been asking me what I’ve done since my big win, so I guess I need to share that with my readers, although it’s not too exciting.

On Sunday (the day after the 110k win), I took my brother and Dean (my two roommates in LA) out to a sushi dinner. We went to Katsu-ya, a very nice sushi place. I actually ran into a friend there (who wishes to remain nameless).

That reminds me… I was planning a trip to EPT Dublin and the Masters Classic in Amsterdam with him, but decided against going. He was pretty upset with me for deciding not to go so late (rightfully so). I had already bought the ticket and everything, but just realized I’ve been traveling way too much, and I went to spend some time at home in LA and enjoy life. I’ve also been doing really well online (even before Saturday) which is more reason to stay home.

There is a big Magic tournament starting on Friday, so lots of old friends will be in town this weekend. On Tuesday I took a bunch of them out to the Cheesecake Factory to welcome them in to town, and also to celebrate my win again. I’ll drop some names for those of you that played magic. The lineup consisted of Huey (William Jensen), Efro (Eric Froehlich), Morgan Douglass, Gabe Walls, Neil Reeves, Yellowhat (Gabriel Nassif), some guy named Nate that I met that night, and yours truly. Afterwards we did a draft (translation: afterwards we played Magic), and it was really really fun. I haven’t played in well over a year. In fact, the last major event I played was almost two and a half years ago (US Nats). All the cards were new to me. I had never seen any of them before. The newest set out looks like a really fun well balanced set, and I can’t wait to play more of it this weekend.

Right now I’m off to play a Last Chance Qualifier for the Magic Pro Tour this weekend. For those of you that don’t know, there are no direct buyins in Magic. You have to satellite in to major events (or be invited based on rating or pro points), and that’s exactly what I’m going to [try to] do. Wish me luck!

I forgot to answer the question everyone has been asking me. What am I going to spend the 110k on? Being the ever exciting guy I am, I’m going to invest it in Mutual funds and stuff like the S&P500. I don’t really need much money to be happy, and since there’s nothing expensive that I need or want, I use most of my winnings to secure a comfortable future. Who knows what I’ll be doing five years from now. Maybe it will be poker, maybe it won’t. Either way, it will be nice to have a cushion to fall back on.

Ok, the Magic cards are calling my name, so I have to go!
