WSOP Update
Let’s see… eight days ago I wrote a blog about being at the final table…
As you can probably guess, I didn’t win, although I did finish 2nd for my biggest cash ever (around $230,000). After 8 cashes over $100,000, and 11 over $75,000, I FINALLY have one over $200,000.
Huge congrats go out to Erick Lindgren for finally winning his first bracelet.
A lot of people have asked me how the heads up went. It was pretty brutal. Basically, I couldn’t flop a pair to save my life, while Erick showed up with top pair every hand. I did manage to flop two pair twice during the limit portion, but lost both times. By then the blinds were so big that there was no way I could recover. I’m really happy with the way I played the whole tournament except for two hands.
1) I wrote about in my last blog. I paid off AA w/ my TT just praying the guy had AK (on an all low-card flop).
2) During HU play, I hit two pair with Q4 in limit. I check raised the turn, and Erick 3-bet. I decided to 4-bet which was a mistake. Luckily it “only” cost me one bet. It could have easily cost me two if Erick had either 5 bet or raised the river.
Other than that one event, the series has been terrible for me. I’m super card dead in everything, and when I finally make a hand, I get sucked out on.
Let’s see how many I can remember. The $1500 shootout started off well, but I lost a coinflip for over 2/3 of the chips at the table.
The $5k NL started off well, until Shifty turned a straight against my top set.
Yesterday was a 3k HORSE. I doubled up over the first 3 levels, then went 3 levels without winning a single hand (except for 1 steal on 3rd street). That just happens sometimes in HORSE, and there’s usually nothing you can do about it. In games with tons of showdowns, you have to make hands since you can’t steal as much.
Today I played the $2k NL. I didn’t win a single hand during level 1 and was down to 2400 chips. I raised QJ preflop, got one caller, missed the flop, but took it down with a c-bet. An orbit later, a guy raised to 350 in MP. The button and SB both called. I looked down at K2o and it seemed like a decent shove spot with so much money in the middle. I shoved and they all folded. That brought me back to a starting stack of 4k.
Amateur Female Player (AFP) raised to 500 in MP. I was next to act and reraised to 1500 with AK. AFP called. The flop came JTx rainbow. AFP thought for a minute, asked me my stack (2400), and put me all-in. I instantly called with AK high. She flipped up AQ. Unfortunately she hit her three outer and I was out of the tournament.
Life is good though. I’m definitely getting frustrated with some of these ridiculous bustouts and card-dead streaks, but I am basically free rolling the WSOP now after my 2nd place. I still really want a bracelet, but won’t get my hopes up.
All of my furniture has finally gotten here, and I love my new condo. I’m in the process of pimping it out, but don’t have too much time since I’m playing tournaments every day. I’m starting to get used to all of these paintings lying on the ground (as opposed to being hung on the wall). Maybe I’ll keep it this way!
Well being the masochist that I am, I have another event to play in 45 minutes. I’m on day 14th of the WSOP and this will be my 17th event. (For those of you wondering… that is NOT a good thing). Hopefully I’ll start making some more day 2’s, and maybe even another day 3 or two.
